What we do

Our current activities

Green Roots operates a working food rescue program and a weekly produce hub today, and has secured acres of fertile land at no cost. The Grow, Gather & Cook project activates that land and adds a community cooking space.

  1. 01

    Farm Development

Land secured — activation in progress
    • Install irrigation, composting and raised beds on the available acres.
    • Plant seasonal crops to ensure variety year-round.
    • Add shade tunnels, compost bays and tool storage as core farm infrastructure.
  2. 02

    Community Cooking Space

New program — launching in the coming months
    • Fit out a shared kitchen space adjacent to the farm and packing hub.
    • Run weekly guided cooking sessions using rescued and farm-grown produce.
    • Offer open kitchen access hours so members can cook independently.
  3. 03

    Volunteer & Membership Pathway

    Running and expanding
    • Train volunteers in farming, harvesting, food handling, packing and kitchen support.
    • Offer membership credits for hours worked in any part of the program.
    • Keep membership flexible: $50/month or volunteer hours.
  4. 04

    Food Rescue Expansion

    Proven and operating today
    • Collect excess fresh produce from local supermarkets for redistribution.
    • Increase supermarket partnerships to grow the volume of rescued food available.
    • Integrate rescued produce with farm harvests through cold storage.
  5. 05

    Weekly Produce Hub

    Operating today
    • Maintain a central space for packing and distributing “Gracie’s Weekly” boxes.
    • Pair rescued produce with farm harvests for consistent weekly boxes.

Why the kitchen matters

From ingredients to meals

Access to produce is only half the problem. The cooking space addresses the skills, confidence and equipment people need to actually use fresh food — turning rescued and farm-grown produce into meals households can cook at home.
